Banda.
Banda music was created as an imitation of the military bands, in the times of the Mexican Empire (2nd), in the 1860´s. Also "banda" music has a part of the polish music, because in the past, some polish musicians established on Sinaloa. The most important time for the "banda" music was in the Mexican Revolution, where most of the revolucionary armys had his own band. People like Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata took his band for play "banda music" before the fights.
At this times, "Banda Music" has still remained in most of the nort and northern states, like Sinaloa, Coahuuila, Nuevo Leon, Sonora, ect, but this gender had suffered a lot of different changes, most of them in the instruments. The most important band, considered by the people, is "Banda El Recodo", they started on Sinaloa, but now his music has been played from all over the country.
Other examples of groups of "banda music" are: La Arrolladora Banda el Limón, Joan Sebastián, Los Primos de Durango, Los Tigres del Norte, Banda el Recodito, Julio Preciado and Banda Machos, between others.
Mariachi:
The "mariachi" music was originally created in Guadalajara, Jalisco, but now actually is very famous all around the country and also in some parts of the United States of America, therefore, is considered the most representative type of music here in México. Is well-know that the "mariachi" is the most importante type of music in our culture.
The origins of this very important type of music has not been discovered in all his parts, because the are many theories about it: One and the most representative theory is the one that says that when Mexico was know as an "Mexican Empire dominated by Maximilano II" when a French marriage was on his wedding and they brought a band that played "mariachi music".

Norteño:
Another important style of music is "norteña" music, is kind of the same of "banda" but isntead of been the most important of the north, is the sub-gender of the "banda" style. The place were this type of music started was in a town in Texas called Río Grande; also like most of the mexican types of music, "norteño" music was influenced by Bohemian musicians and also by some music of Europe in the 1800´s.
"Norteña" music is know as the popular type of music that is played by a group of musicians, that consists when this group played a lot of differents instruments. It´s well-know that "norteño" music has a los of influences by a lot of differents ways; first of all, this base of this type of music is based on "bolero" and "corrido" and also by some others types of european music. This type of music is hear by too many people here in Mexico, but also in others part of the U.S and South America.
Actually "Norteno" music has suffered a lot of changes, specially those that involves the traditions of it. In the year of 1950, some electronic instruments were included in the groups; by the decade of 1990-2000, "norteña" music became more popular in the United States. Some of the most important groups of all times are: Los Alegres de Terán, Los Tigres del Norte, Grupo Pesado, Los Tucanes de Tijuana and Intocable.
Cumbia:
"Cumbia" is a type of music that also involves dance that is well-know is all the countries in America, where every country gives to it a different way to dance or characteristics, because countries like Venezuela, Uruguay, El Salvador, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Argentina had his owned type of "cumbia". There are a lot of instruments that are used to performed "cumbia"; like we said Mexico has his own way to dance and play type special type of music.
"Cumbia" was played by the first time in Colombia by Luis Carlos Meyer, then he emigrated to Mexico he made contact with a lot of mexican artists and with help of them they together started to played "mexican cumbia". From those times, "cumbia" became one of the most popular types of music, therefore we have a lot of memorables artists that are very good examples of what "cumbia" is.
We have artists like Rigo Tovar, Los Angeles Azules, Celso Piña, Grupo Cañaveral, Bronco. Also we had a very special women: Selena but she unfortunally was murdered.
